The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Music by Steve Jablonsky La-La Land Records 2003 |
|
| Imagine standing in an open field with a huge sky
out in front of you. Off in the distance the clouds are black, rolling and churning with a
thunderstorm inside. Its only a matter of time before the explosion of thunder and
lighting strike. Thats the best analogy I could give as you slip this CD in. This
TCM score represents atmosphere with authority. Steve Jablonsky has created an incredibly restrained, yet dynamically recorded score that demands to be heard. Jablonsky layers his score with a multitude of sound, always focusing on using the quiet moments to amplify the large crushing blows. He doesnt go for the obvious and lets tension build naturally. Though the majority of the music is dissonant & atonal it is actually melodic in a beautiful dark way. This soundtrack is easy to listen to, in fact since I received this CD back in October; Ive listened to THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE CD more than any other in my large collection. I will also admit as I write my next feature film script, this is one of the CDs Ive been using as inspiration. Quite of few people were surprised by this film because lets be honest, who would of thought it was worth even attempting to redo a classic such as TCM. You have to give credit to Producer Michael Bay, Director Marcus Nispel and Composer Steve Jablonsky. They faced a pretty daunting task of meeting the quality of the original Tobe Hooper masterpiece. In some ways they exceeded it. |
