The Rage – Music by Midnight Syndicate

Linfaldia Records – 2008

Midnight Syndicate definitely has branched out and extended their sound to include screaming brass with this score for Robert Kurtzman's THE RAGE.  The music Edward Douglas has composed for this movie sounds totally like a Hollywood movie.  All the ingredients you would expect to hear from the major composers are here.

The second track "Injecting The Formula" is as intense as anything Midnight Syndicate has ever performed.  I really liked the subtle creepy atmospherics in "Dr. V's Lab."  The sound mix in "Feeding Time" is excellent.  All sorts of musical sound texture comes out of this fifth track.

The quietness of "Kiss The Monkey" gives the score a nice change of pace.

The piano of "Dr. V's Theme" is beautiful and the voices are a nice way to underscore the beauty while something dangerous lurks underneath.

"Surrounded," "Showdown in the Lab," and "Final Confrontation with Dr. V" hits you in the face with clanging horror action hits.  "Breakthrough" has this echoing wood bouncing sound that creates ambience that is very cool and kind of like what James Horner did with a different instrument to similar effect in ALIENS.

It's really nice to see Midnight Syndicate scoring movies now.  It really just a matter of time before it happened because their music is so cinematic and ready for film.

Nineteen delicious tracks of horror are featured on this movie soundtrack.  Anyone looking to add quality scary music to their collection or CD rotation would be more than pleased to add THE RAGE.
