Tommy Emmanuel - Live At Her Majesty's Theatre, Ballarat, Australia

 Favored Nations - 2006

Tommy Emmanuel is one of the most distinguished guitar players in the world.  In 2005, Emmanuel went back to home to Australia to tour the country performing many of his tunes.

The performances are captured from multiple cameras, as this DVD looks and sounds fantastic.

Right out of the gate, Emmanuel means business performing an incredible finger picking monster called "Tall Fiddler."  This song is done at breakneck speak with his right & left hand running up and down the guitar neck.

"Cannonball Bag" is tender but features fast and furious guitar picking.

Emmanuel admits that he probably fell in love with "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" three times.  First when he was a child, then a second and third time when his first and second daughters were born.  His rendition of this song made famous from THE WIZARD OF OZ, is incredibly moving and his emotion for his children completely comes across.

Emmanuel is later joined on stage by his fiancée Elizabeth Watkins, who is an accomplished singer/songwriter herself.  There is truly chemistry between the two.

It was neat to hear how Emmanuel got his inspiration for "Lewis & Clark." The way in which he performs this track, you can imagine the two men exploring the western part of the United States and we join them in what they discover.

In between the wonderful songs are commentaries and performances and personal insights to what the songs mean and why they were written.

Tommy Emmanuel is one of the best our planet has to offer and if you don't know who is or ever heard his music, getting this DVD would be a great place to start.
