Underworld – Evolution
Music by Marco Beltrami

Lakeshore Records – 2006
"The Crawl" Marco Beltrami takes us into the war between werewolves and vampires in this action packed sequel to Kate Beckinsale & Len Wiseman’s UNDERWORLD. "O’ Timey Music" pounds with hard hitting percussion and biting brass. "William Captured" features one of the most familiar themes used in UNDERWORLD – Evolution.

"Corvin’s Cruisin’ Crypt" marches along with the steady beat of militaristic drums and orchestration. A huge clash between the two malevolent forces of darkness are certain to happen and this cue foreworns this.

There is a part of "Morgue Medallion" that reminds me an awful lot of a similar theme in the television series LOST.

"Cue De Cilantro" gives the score a much needed break from the action and let’s the listener ponder and recollect one’s thoughts before the war escalates into full all out battle mode.

"Trunkin" has a suspense thriller, almost espionage feel integrated with music leading up to more fighting. Parts of this remind me of Jerry Goldsmith’s score for TOTAL RECALL in a way.

The slow and purposeful build of "Shot Glass" brings tension to the score. The heartbeat like percussion playing softly in the back is very effective. Marco Beltrami gets the brass and strings to work together to take us on the orchestral flight of "Heli-Ride."

"William’s Castle" feels like a massive wall of orchestral sound coming down from above. Historic, combative this cue is musical fuel for battle.

"Marcus Trumpped Again" traces the fighting to the death of all the characters in this climatic scene. Beltrami is excellent with this kind of high-tension cue.

Beltrami makes us believe there is hope for "The Future" as the orchestra mellows down and the strings play for a better tomorrow. Marco Beltrami has been delivering high rate scores ever since SCREAM and UNDWORLD – EVOLUTION can be added to his ever-increasing list of superb movie scores.

Flyleaf supplies the grungy distorted female vocal track "Something I Can Never Have" and Cevin Key/Ken Hiwatt Marshall electricsizes "EracTou" a dance beat track.
