Underworld Music by Paul Haslinger
Lakeshore Records - 2003 |
|
| Hitting hard, like an anvil to the head, former
Tangerine Dream member Paul Haslinger creates a mountain of percussive sound that backs
this action/horror film. Huge drums smash and all kinds little sampled sounds build this
score up to its climatic payoff. There is no question that THE MATRIX influenced every aspect of this film including the music. The difference with Paul Haslingers score is that everything comes from electronic source where as Don Davis used mainly an orchestra. Haslinger creates a sound that is gigantic which helps give UNDERWORLD the feel of something larger than life. This goes along with Len Wisemans direction, which teeters on going over the top. The music sounds as though it was coming from some massive steel mill with all sorts of machines pounding out the music. Think of Brad Fidels score for TERMINATOR or T2 on steroids. Thats not to say I didnt like this. In fact its quite fun and Haslinger more than services the film. |
