Van Helsing.jpg (36413 bytes) Van Helsing - Music by Alan Silvestri

Decca Records – 2004

Like a werewolf jumping down to rip out your throat, VAN HELSING comes right at you. There is not a lot of subtly, which goes along with Stephen Sommers directorial approach, but if you like action fast and furious then you’ll enjoy this adventurous ride. If any film score was ever like an amusement park ride VAN HELSING would be it. It almost sounds like it should be blasting out of the speakers while you are a roller coaster.

You may not walk away humming the themes from VAN HELSING but while you are listening to it; it will pump up your adrenaline and put you in a good mood. Composer Alan Silvestri is actually quite good at doing these kinds of scores. He did a similar job when he scored THE MUMMY RETURNS, which of course was directed by Stephen Sommers also.

Two things that stood out about Silvestri’s VAN HELSING composition was his choice of using the Spanish tinged guitar, which really gave the score much needed warmth. The other thing was his use of a massive choir. The voices are as powerful as the orchestra and made VAN HELSING more majestic.

Decca Records has put together some great interactive media, which automatically comes on as you load The
Enhanced CD. The trailer for the interactive VAN HELSING game sports images that look awfully close to
the film. The photo gallery was cool. We also get a preview links to the comic and official VAN HELSING
website.
