William Grefé: His Crazy Life as an Independent Filmmaker

Shepard Entertainment - 2003

This is the first time I’m reviewing a book that is only 48 pages long and was sent to me via the Internet as a PDF copy. Though short on pages, this mini-book, which acts as William Grefé’s biography, is very entertaining and paints the picture of a person determined to make films.

I’d compare Grefé’s story with Roger Corman. Like Corman, Grefé made films with little time and money. From what is written, Grefé had strong ambition, was able to make things work when they shouldn’t have and didn’t get pushed around by producers or actors with strong demands. These restrictions didn’t stop him from constantly working, sometimes with recognizable people. For this he deserves our attention, though I can’t comment on the actual films, as I have honestly never seen any of them.
