XYZ Letter To God www.xyzmusic.com - 2003 "Whats On Your Mind" brings the return of heavy metal blues of XYZ. This is a serious hard rocking album that we havent seen the likes of since the last LYNCH MOB or BADLANDS album. You would think "Letter To God" would be a mellow tune by the name; instead its an aggressive metallic tune where singer Terry Ilous sings serious blues. "Asking" is the band slowing down to cry out their pain. |

| The heavy melody of "Tango" is catchy
and JK Northrup burns a passionate solo. "Rainy Day" is the first of a few songs
where the vocals mention rain, which I kind of take as the band washing away the past for
the present. JK Northrup captures cool distorted guitar sound in "United" and
Sean McNabbs bass gives this song power. Paul Monroe is over all over the drums,
diversifying the beat. Ilous vocals and Monroes percussion give "Deny" some flavor. Northrups guitar squeals with chunkiness in "Touch The Sky." The clean guitar parts scattered throughout this tune give it balance. The way Terry Ilous sings "Well" honestly reminds me at times of Simon LeBon of Duran Duran. A couple of XYZs earlier tunes are redone like "Inside Out 2003" and "What Keeps Me Loving You (2003)." Before the end of the album XYZ proves its "Never Too Late" to rock. The last track is a Spanish Version of "Tango." The best description of XYZ would be a metallic version of Led Zeppelin. |
